Tesla Introduces the Virtual Power Plant

The Tesla Virtual Power Plant (VPP)

It’s not a secret here in Northern California that our power grid is stretched and consistent power isn’t a guarantee. At Connected Technology we love helping our customers gain their energy independence by installing solar solutions that include the Tesla Powerwall to help them take control of powering their home.

Keeping the Lights On

Always innovating, Tesla is making a call to action to help keep the lights on for both you and your community.  If you opt-in to the Tesla Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Tesla will dispatch your Powerwall when the grid needs support while continuing to maintain your energy security. You don’t need to change your home energy usage to participate. Even better,  if you’re part of a net energy metering program, you could earn credit for their energy that is sent to the grid during events.

Besides “keeping the lights on,” this community effort really helps move us to a cleaner power grid, avoiding the dependence on fossil-fueled generators that would normally do this function during an emergency.  Tesla Powerwall customers will team up with other owners who are helping Tesla to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. Customers will help build the largest distributed battery in the world with potentially over 50,000 Powerwalls.

How to Sign Up for VPP

If you’re screaming “Where do I sign up!?,” Tesla has made it a simple process.

Step 1: Open the Tesla app, and switch to your home.

Step 2: Tap ‘Customize.’

Step 3: Scroll down to ‘Tesla Virtual Power Plant.’

Step 4: Tap the switch on, and follow the prompts to enroll.
