Upgrade Home Wiring
Upgrade Your Home Wiring During Electrification
If you’re upgrading the electrical equipment in your home such as an electric cooktop or electric heater, you may need to upgrade your home wiring.
Along with your electrical panel, electrical wiring is a critical step to enable whole-home electrification.
While some electrical appliances can plug into a normal outlet, others require 240V outlets. This is especially important for EV chargers, inductions stoves and most heat pumps and heat pump water heaters.
If you’re hiring an electrician for one project in your home, it’s a great time to install additional dedicated circuits and outlets for appliances you may want to electrify in the future. This way you’re prepared when your next fossil fuel appliance needs to be replaced. The wiring will be ready to go and you save money because you won’t need to hire an electrician a second time.
Electrifying your home? The new Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) may cover upgraded wiring in your home. More information can be found on our IRA page.
